Josephine County correctional officers, along with an off-duty Rural Metro firefighter, were among the first to arrive and render aid. The driver was initially unconscious as they worked to stabilize the vehicle and create a plan for removal. The off-duty firefighter, utilizing a personal saw, removed the windshield in preparation of arriving rescue crews. A task that accelerated the extrication process. Upon arrival of Rural Metro Fire, Illinois Valley Fire District and Josephine County AMR, the driver was transferred to the ambulance and transported to the hospital with possible spinal injuries. Oregon State Police is handling the investigation.
