15 Facts About The Bible

  1. The Bible was written over a period of 1500 years. Moses was the first author who wrote about 1400 years before Jesus. The last book to be written was Revelation, by the apostle John, about 100 A.D.
  2. The Bible had approximately 40 authors.
  3. The first book written was the book of Job. This notable book addresses the issue of human suffering.
  4. The Bible contains a variety of literature, including songs, dreams, biographies, laws, letters, and history. The book of Job reads like a dramatic screen play.
  5. The shortest verse in the Bible has only two words, “Jesus wept,” (John 11:35).
  6. The word “and” occurs 46,219 times.
  7. Neither the word “God” nor “Lord” occurs in Esther.
  8. The middle chapter of the Bible is also the shortest chapter, Psalm 117 (2 verses).
  9. The Bible was the first book printed on a printing press, about 1450 A.D.
  10. The Bible is the most translated book in the world. The complete Bible is available in 750 languages; the New Testament in 1700 languages; and portions in 1200 languages, which makes a total of 3650 languages in which you can read at least a part of the Bible. Second place goes to The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupery (500 languages); third place to The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi (260 languages).
  11. In 2023 there were 356 new language Bible translation projects started. This is good news, but there are still many more languages without Bibles.
  12. The Bible is not the world’s longest literary work; in fact, the Encyclopedia Britannica is 56 times longer than the Bible.
  13. The longest word in the Bible is “Maher-shalal-hash-baz” which was the name of the son of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 8.1). It means, “the plunder is coming, and it is coming fast,” and it was a prediction of the sacking of two cities, Damascus and Samaria, by the Assyrians.
  14. The word “reverend” occurs only once in the Bible and it applies to God (Psalm 111.9).
  15. If you read 15 minutes a day, you can finish the Bible in a year.
