According to a press release from Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, Aug. 16, 1:31 p.m., 911 received a phone call from a residence in the 1800 block of Laurel Road. The caller reported that a dog attacked a four-year-old female. Deputies responded to the scene as well as personnel from American Medical Response and the Illinois Valley Fire Department. Despite lifesaving measures performed, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The child’s name will not be released.
The Sheriff’s Office began a death investigation with the assistance of personnel from the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. The dog, a Cane Corso/Rottweiler/ Pitt Bull mix was taken into custody by Animal Control personnel. This case is still under investigation and no further information is currently available.
