Life in the Valley of Riches

by Dan Mancuso,
publisher

County Commissioner Chris Barnett is a pretty good politician. Consider the library and sheriff budget. He creates a problem, lies and says the problem never happened and at the last moment, he swoops in to save the day. Honestly, does the guy have no shame?
Barnett, Blech, Sellers and Smith have been systematically dismantling the county government since January. Ron Smith has been the only voice of reason all year.
With the departure of the inept elected treasurer, we have to wonder which crony they will replace him with. Simon Hare would have been the logical choice but after the show he put on during the budget season I doubt he will be in the running or even apply.
I hope voters realize that party line voting isn’t very smart in local elections.
Yes I am jaded about losing an election to a guy with the integrity of slug and governmental operational knowledge of the leaf the slug slimes on.
Maybe you don’t like Mancuso, but at least we wouldn’t be where we are now, food for thought.
In other news, jaguars running amuck.
Each year people take to social media ranting about how their baby daddy’s brothers baby momma’s neighbors cousin’s baby lost a leg from swimming in the Illinois River. No, man-eating bacteria does not live in our river. There is always more to the story.
Yet annually I aid in the social media drama by adding to the legless baby story that the man-eating bacteria is coming from the feces of the white tiger that has been eluding capture since its escape from a local park for centuries ago.
I laugh. Many others laugh too. But now, the jag story came out, some of my friends didn’t believe it and said it was Mancuso string the pot again.
I’m now the boy who cried tiger.
But the reality is, the jag never escaped, it never left the park. No one was ever in danger. Good thing we have social media to fire up the masses. Comments on posts were akin to what one might expect in Germany when people were getting ready to storm Frankenstein’s castle.
Keep in mind, Frankenstein wasn’t born bad, he was made bad by people.
