Library lease negotiations move forward as talks continue

Following a productive library lease negotiation meeting on July 1, leaders from the Josephine Community Library District report that discussions about the lease for the county-owned Grants Pass library facility are moving forward.
Library leaders attribute this forward movement to the continued engagement and support of the community.
“The voices of library supporters are being heard, and their advocacy has helped move these negotiations forward,” said Library Board Vice President Rachele Selvig. “The letters, emails, and presence at public meetings have made a real difference. We are incredibly grateful to the people of Josephine County who continue to stand up for library access and stability.”
While the details of a new lease agreement have not yet been finalized, both parties are engaged in continued negotiations, and the library director expressed optimism about reaching a resolution that protects community access to library services.
“We’re encouraged by the progress made during our latest meeting and remain hopeful about the direction of these talks,” said Library Director Kate Lasky. “Our board is committed to transparency throughout this process, and we will continue to keep the public informed as details develop.”
The current lease runs through December 31, 2025. County commissioners are expected to review the terms of the proposed agreement later this month. The library district board will follow with its own review in August. If negotiations stay on track, a final lease agreement is expected to be completed by the end of August.
As negotiations continue, library leaders reaffirmed that the current facility remains essential while the district prepares for the construction of a new Grants Pass library in the coming years.
The district encourages residents to stay engaged, continue asking questions, and remain active in support of a long-term agreement that preserves reliable library service for everyone in Josephine County.
