Tee Tattler

Greetings from a very hot golf course.
We have been chasing rainbirds and fixing broken pipes this week in an attempt to keep the fairways green. It is pretty hard to keep up when it is so hot, I prefer the cooler misty weather but not the hard rainy stuff. The freshwater pond is keeping up very well with the river pump operating perfectly and the little creek that runs across the #1 fairway, although the beavers try their best to dam up that creek in numerous places. It’s pretty funny in late Summer when it hasn’t rained for 2 or 3 months but the beavers have backed up that creek so far that the left side lower section of #1 is flooded. There is a large pond across the street from the course and it has a nice spillway that has not been used for many years, due to the beavers keeping it perpetually plugged with sticks and mud.
In other news, the Men’s league has been going for a month now, I will have a listing of teams and standings next week. The ladies have been coming out pretty well but a bit sparse because of Little League baseball games all Spring. I expect that they will be back in force now that LIttle League is done for the year.
We have a tournament this weekend for Don Peterson. A handful of his family and friends are signed up and will be bringing a potluck and stories about Don for after the tournament. The event is open to the public.
The St Anthony’s Festa tournament is the 21st of June and we will be seeing some players from Grants Pass and Medford join up with our normal guys. They also play a day over at Stoneridge and have a nice BBQ afterward. If you play this tournament, you get to go to the BBQ over at the Medford Fairgrounds too.
Jr Golf starts today, hope that the weather cooperates a little and doesn’t bake them these first days!
The column will be short today as I am up against the deadline with Dan.
And remember, kids 17 and younger play for free at IVCC.
