I can’t believe I am saying this, but the Illinois Valley News is going all digital starting in July. All subscribers will be switched to email and online. When your subscription expires you may choose the version you like best.
Our advertisers will be both in front and behind the pay wall and the ability to link their ad to a website or other digital formats. If a reader clicks on an ad it will take them directly to the decided link from the advertiser.
Shop Smart and other flyers will be on the site as well in front of the pay wall and included in the e-mail edition.
Due to a new law in Oregon we will be able to maintain our paper of record status. ORS 193.010 (3) “Newspaper” means a newspaper of general circulation that meets all of the following requirements: (a) Is circulated in a print format or a digital newspaper format. .
What does this mean for you? It means that you keep your newspaper. With increased paper prices due to tariffs on Canadian wood pulp that is used to make newspapers, the cost to print is becoming a burden. With print, the more you print the cheaper it becomes per piece. Our community is leaning more on free sources like Facebook and not using print media. You also will get the paper each week usually on Tuesday. The big bonus is that we are not relying on the post office to give your paper to someone else.
To our advertisers the ads will in front of the pay wall therefore getting more eyes on the ads and the ability to drive readers directly to your website.
To our public notice customers, there is no delay getting your notice posted online. However, it will still need to be ran in the digital issue that week.
Please work with me on this as certainly there will be issues with the rollout. Thank you for picking up this week’s issue. Enjoy! ~ djm
