AllCare awards $50,000 to Cave Junction Farmers’ Market to expand protein access

KERBY, OR – AllCare Health, in collaboration with the Josephine and Southern Douglas County Community Advisory Council, has granted $50,000 to the Cave Junction Farmers’ Market to combat rural food insecurity.
The funding will support the market’s “Protein Bucks” program, which provides SNAP participants with up to $20 per week to purchase protein-rich foods. In addition, SNAP participants are eligible for a separate $20 Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) match to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. This program improves food security among rural, low-income individuals and families in the Illinois Valley and greater Josephine County. With an on-site EBT machine, the market ensures that SNAP customers can easily use their benefits on eligible items, supporting both their health and the local food economy.
Held weekly from April through October, the Cave Junction Farmers’ Market is a lively, community-centered gathering that takes place every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at 24100 Redwood Highway in Kerby, Oregon, across from the Kerbyville Museum. Known for its robust energy and wide selection of local goods, the market features a diverse array of small farms, food producers and artisans, making it a hub for connection and nourishment in the Valley.
This initiative underscores AllCare Health’s dedication to community well-being and sustainable food systems.
