Motorcycle crash takes life of Valley member

On May 2, at 9:08 a.m., Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 199, near milepost 35, south of Cave Junction.
The preliminary investigation indicated a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by William Robert Murphy (37) of Cave Junction, crossed over the northbound lane, entered a pullout area, and left the improved portion of the roadway. The operator traveled into a ditch and struck a tree.
Murphy was declared deceased at the scene.
The highway was impacted for approximately one hour during the on-scene investigation.
OSP was assisted by the Illinois Valley Fire Department and ODOT.
