Life in the Valley of Riches

Commissioner Chris Barnett doesn’t like being criticized, but really, who does? What Barnett fails to understand is that he asked for the job. He spent time and money to get the job. He freely admits that he never paid attention to the board of commissioners before he ran and won.
One of the many issues people have with Barnett is that he tells a lot of lies in an attempt to cover up what many see as misdeeds. In the May 1 weekly business session, both Barnett and Ron Smith denied canceling the library’s lease. Barnett went further to avoid the question and said the library wasn’t evicted, which was true. Both Barnett and Smith voted yes to cancel the libraries lease for cause. However, neither of them asked what the cause was, they just rubber-stamped the recalled John West’s motion.
In Barnett’s, “Why is everyone being so mean to me?” rant claiming he was being treated unfair like child would, he correctly stated that he won the election. Heck, I came in last place. If only I had run on God and freedom as my platform. Not sure what he meant by freedom. Maybe freedom to lie and mislead.
I guess running on a platform of knowledge of the county and its departments isn’t a winning campaign message. But hey, the people have spoken and now its time for them to be punished.
It seems people don’t like to be punished and are holding Barnett accountable. Barnett isn’t happy with that. Barnett’s rant spoke of the hate he sees on social media. To be frank, I was embarrassed for him. The rant was very childish and unprofessional, downright pathetic. The man needs to get some thicker skin.
The video is posted on the county website if you need a good laugh or are looking to pity someone. The rant starts about 1 hour and 28 minutes into the meeting.
In a turn of events, the commissioners did a full reversal on Michael Sellers. In a meeting April 28, the commissioners, who appeared to have their tails between their legs, cautiously spoke about how the reorganization of the county was over and that Sellers would be going back to his original position of IT and Emergency Management director.
Then, the trio proceeded to pat themselves on their backs about how they successfully dismantled the entire brain trust of the county by losing nearly every department head in only 55 days.
Thank you for picking up this week’s paper. Enjoy! ~djm
