The Statue of Liberty is more than a huge, impressive sculpture- it is one of our most cherished national symbols. The poem inscribed on a bronze plaque inside the pedestal includes the words, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” which defines what the statue has represented for generations. I hope the current administration doesn’t have that sentiment hacked off, or close the immigration museum on Ellis Island.
