Really Big Love
God loves us. That sounds like a pretty simple statement; ordinary even. But it’s so much more than that. God’s love for us is big, and I mean really big. So big that it’s big enough to do anything we can imagine, and even the stuff we can’t.
But for that to happen we need to do three things. 1) We need to trust him. 2) We need to turn over the reins. And 3) We need to follow Him where He’s leading us even if it seems scary or like we’re going in the wrong direction.
Our vision is too small to see where all this will lead or where it will end. We can’t see the big picture, but God can. So, trust Him.
And God’s really big love isn’t just for us. It’s for everyone. That’s why we need to share it. Share it when it’s hard. Share it when it’s easier to turn away rather than turn the other cheek. Share it when we have to love someone who’s unlovable. And especially share it when we think we’re going to fail.
That’s a tall order, I know, but we won’t get big miracles if we keep tripping over our little fears. God raised Jesus from the tomb even though every one of the disciples except John was afraid to attend the crucifixion. He raised Him even though Thomas refused to believe it because he couldn’t accept that something that big could ever happen, and his fear told him that if he did believe, he’d be disappointed again.
God’s love can move mountains, but first we have to believe it can happen. That starts by letting God set the agenda. Don’t limit Him by trying to figure out the solution yourself and then just asking Him to provide the power source. Even if we get the power from Him, our poor wiring can still lead to a disaster. Let God create the schematic, build the prototype and then power it up. He can do it if we just get out of the way!
But the most important step, and the one we most often forget, is to ask Him for His help. The Bible tells us, “Ask and you shall receive. Knock and it will be opened,” but no one is going to open that door if we aren’t knocking and ringing the bell.
We need to give God the room to give us the miracles He has waiting for us. And we need to share His love with the people and in the places where we’d never imagine we could be successful.
This Easter reminds of just how big God’s love really is and the miracles it can do. It reminds us that God’s love saved us and saved the whole world with just one empty tomb. And that’s some really big love.
