The dominating performance began with a resounding victory at home April 8, where the team came out swinging. Kegan Russell set the tone early with a grand slam in the first inning, part of a staggering 10-run opening frame. “We wanted to make a statement right from the start,” said head coach Jesse Dugas, reflecting on the energy of the team. adding, “Everyone contributed, and it felt great to start the series on such a high note.”
In Game 2, played April 12 in Riddle, the team continued their offensive onslaught, emerging victorious with a score of 14-1. Bryson Gilmore, the winning pitcher, was exceptional on the mound, allowing under 60 pitches to ensure his eligibility for the following game.
Strong performances from players like Zack Dugas, who stole four bases, Mason Richardson with three hits and Braedan Lapora, who also contributed three hits, highlighted the team’s overall depth. “It’s a great feeling when everyone is clicking like that,” said coach Dugas.
The final game of the series proved to be the most challenging. Key hits from Zack Dugas and Kegan Russell sparked a revival, each contributing hits that drove in crucial runs. Additionally, Bryson Gilmore and Kyle Porter executed successful bunts, pushing runners across home plate and chasing Riddle’s starter out of the game by the end of the third inning.
Lapora secured the win after a stellar pitching performance and Mason Richardson stepped in to close the game, showcasing the depth of the pitching staff. “It was a tough battle, but we showed resilience and teamwork,” Coach Dugas remarked. The game concluded with a score of 13-7, sealing the sweep and shining a spotlight on the team’s collective effort and determination.
As the IVHS team stands proudly at the top of their conference, they also find themselves in the midst of a crucial week ahead. With Glendale, currently in second place, on the schedule, the stakes have never been higher. The team will face Glendale away on Tuesday, followed by a home doubleheader this April 18, starting at noon.
Coach Dugas emphasized the importance of maintaining their momentum as they head into these critical matchups. “Every game counts, and playing Glendale is a huge opportunity for us to solidify our standing,” he noted. “We need to focus on our game plan and continue building on what has been working for us.”
As the team gears up for an exciting week, the spirit of teamwork and the drive to excel, IVHS baseball is poised for an impressive season ahead.
