Tales from the Rural Patrol

(Editor’s note: Factual information for ‘Tales’ is provided by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. All persons listed are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Charges can be amended or dismissed.)

March 9
*There was a two-car crash at Williams Hwy and Green Meadow Rd. with one in a ditch and one in a fence. Taylor Thorp, 38, was taken into the Sobering Center and charged with a DUII.
*A vehicle with three prior incidents caught the attention of a deputy who noted that the driver failed to signal, failed to stay in his lane, failed to renew registration, and was driving uninsured at Russel Rd. and Starflower Way. The unnamed driver did not get a passing grade this time.

March 10
*Jonathon Michels, 42, was arrested at gunpoint in the 200 block of Samarkand Road pertaining to a warrant from the JoCo police. He had prior charges of failing to appear for unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a weapon.
*Dallas Silva, 46, was not cooperating with officers and required a “transport unit” when he was arrested on a parole violation in the 100 block of S. Redwood Highway.
*A 9mm pistol was confiscated in the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. from Tyler Olson, 30, who was subsequently arrested on charges of theft by receiving and unlawful possession of a concealed firearm. You can gun, but you just can’t hide.
*In the 100 block of S. Redwood Hwy. Solana Costello, 35, was arrested on a JoCo warrant for failing to comply on previous criminal mischief charges.
*A barking Anatolian Shepard got his mom in trouble in the 3900 block of Highland Avenue. They were warned and advised of licensing laws.

March 11
*At the local jailhouse in Grants Pass, Christopher Patrick McLaughlin, 37, was taken into custody on a warrant for harassment and assault.
*Someone made a scene and was trespassed from the O’Brien store while receiving a dws charge.

March 12
*On Takilma Rd. at the 4600 block, Robert Lee Stephens was served with a warrant for a restraining order violation of failing to appear on criminal trespass charges.
*A Jackson County warrant was served to Douglas Hayes, 61, for failure to appear for unlawful use of a weapon and four menacing charges…but wait, there’s more! Hayes also received a warrant from the Medford PD for also missing his court date for unlawful possession of meth. He was thrown in the slammer after police caught up with him at Skycrest Dr. and Skyway.

March 13
*Don’t forget your appointments! Hunter Steven Reid, 32, was arrested at the jailhouse for failing to appear for a DUII charge.

March 14
*A dog named Bandit bit someone and was put on a doggy quarantine until rabies vaccinations were confirmed in the 5500 block of Caves Highway. It’s national Pi Day, not thigh day, Bandit!
*Travis Elmore, 39, was angry that his girlfriend wouldn’t take him to the store, so he told the deputy that’s why he sped through a school zone. That was an expensive trip to the store!
*Joshua DeLaCruz, 24, was upset because he got caught cheating on his girlfriend. If the wrath of a woman scorned isn’t enough, he put the cherry on the sundae and was arrested on assault, domestic violence, strangulation, and menacing charges. His girlfriend said that he tried to take a “dab rig” (weed on steroids bong) from her and it broke, causing him to push her at the residence in the 2900 block of Demeray Drive. He had scratches on his arms, but wouldn’t specify how they got there, and said he “didn’t want to get her in trouble,” and did not report any injuries. The woman was given contact with the Women’s Crisis Center.

March 15
*Maybe he thought that pulling into a carwash would fool the police, but it didn’t work out that way. Troy Morton, 32, was arrested on duii, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment charges at Williams Hwy. and New Hope Road. Hopefully he’ll have a clean record after this.
*A fishing boat for sale ended up with one man in jail at New Hope and W. Intervale Road. Charles Chambers, 54, went to buy the boat, but the property owner said he did not know him, and Charles tried to take the boat. Chambers got a speeding ticket, a criminal trespass charge, and attempted unlawful use of a motorized vehicle. It’s raining and flooding pretty good out on New Hope, but he couldn’t paddle fast enough. Play some banjo music next time, they’ll never catch you.
