The group called Beacons of Hope marched along downtown Cave Junction Feb. 18 with signs and chants to demonstrate their disapproval with Trump’s policies and executive orders.

The group was formed by Michelle Windust and Dave Lukei. When asked about the reason for the demonstration, Windust said, “Our goal was to raise awareness of how Trump’s policies affect our community detrimentally, and to inspire hope to underrepresented people of the community.”
As they crossed Redwood Hwy., you could hear Lukei shout, “Forest workers were fired!” Illinois Valley News followed up with Lukei and he said, “We found out about the firing of workers at the Caves and our Forestry Office. The protest was for many reasons – we are flooded with hate, lies and division in our community. It’s affecting us all.”
Windust said they will be doing another protest in March. “The exact date has not been established yet, but we had a really positive response from the community and many more are joining the next demonstration. We embrace the sharing of information on where to find local resources to help people of the community, such as help groups, free food and health services.”
