The year 2024 is rapidly coming to an end, and the new year is waiting to reveal itself. Although this is a busy time of the year, this is a particularly short Mayor’s Letter. This holiday season is more a time when friends and family hunker down at home and share food, gifts, and good times.
This season is also a time for baking cookies and sharing with friends and family. Last Saturday at the visitor center, around 200-250 children sat on Santa Claus’s lap and shared with him their wishes. Everyone received an age-appropriate gift funded by the Chamber of Commerce, I.V. Fire District, local businesses and many other organizations in our community. Do we live in a great community or what!
It is hard for me to believe that I have been privileged to be in the position of the mayor of Cave
Junction for six years. My, how time flies! These years as mayor have marked me in ways I am
still contemplating. The library addition is completed, and Main Street Cave Junction is an
active nonprofit focused on downtown beautification. The Splash Pad in Jubilee Park is finished and there is a new sign up at the ballpark. There is a free lunch for anyone who comes to the Pavilion at noon on Wednesdays. Murals are popping up around town and the electrical boxes are beautifully wrapped. There is so much more that happened in 2024 and you can read the Year in Review in the I.V. News. I love where I live! I hope you do too.
Technically my last letter as mayor of the City of Cave Junction will be Jan. 8, when the I.V. News resumes in the new year. My last week as mayor will end Jan. 13 when I turn the reins over to Mayor Elect Jesse Dugas. When I first ran for Mayor in 2019, I had people outside of the community look at me as if I were crazy. Today I can say how proud I am of the community where I live and what has been accomplished over the last six years. Merry Christmas, Happy
Hanukkah, Winter Solstice or whatever special times you celebrate. Cheers, until the next time in 2025!
