Richard “Doc” Smith, 77, of Cave Junction, died Nov. 13, 2024 at his home. Doc was born July 31, 1947 to parents Raymond and Irene Smith in Syracuse, N.Y.
Doc proudly served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. His passion for helping others prompted him to start a program for young veterans in Menlo Park, Calif. with a focus on providing visibility for veterans with PTSD. He was passionate about everything he did in life, including bull riding and motorcycles. Doc met his partner Mary in the early 90’s and they spent 30 happy years together. Private family services will be held. Arrangements with Illinois Valley Funeral Directors.
