From the mayor’s desk: Meadow Martell

There was another milestone in our community Nov. 16. Congratulations to I.V. Living Solutions for moving forward with their vision of a transitional housing facility called I.V. HOPE Village. They held the groundbreaking ceremony onsite of the future transitional housing development. This program will be an important step toward preparing residents in our community for stable housing.
I.V. HOPE will provide resources and opportunities for creative affordable housing solutions, case management, and supportive services for those experiencing homelessness in the Illinois Valley.
You can help fund this resource in our community by purchasing an engraved brick. If you would like to see your name, business, loved one or an important date please help raise funds for the tiny units at I.V. HOPE Village. Contact Living Solutions at 315 Caves Hwy. Suite C in Cave Junction or mail to P.O. Box 342, Cave Junction, OR 97523. The price is $100 – 300 sliding scale.
There are more cool things happening in the Illinois Valley. Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve was certified as an International Dark Sky Park by Dark Sky International. This achievement reflects the culmination of a multiyear effort by Park staff to improve natural darkness and reflects the progressive evolution of the Park’s management goals to ensure the stewardship of the rich natural resources of the Siskiyou Mountains.
There are plenty of people who want to focus on what is not working in Cave Junction. I prefer to highlight the good things happening in our community. Surveying 16K+ Americans, CivicPlus® found that residents in technology-forward communities are more satisfied with local government interactions than those still engaging through manual-based processes. To build a solid foundation of trust, residents indicated that technologies within public departments were critical tools for improving residents’ perceptions of local government. Creating transparent communication channels validated to residents that local leaders are responsibly using taxpayer dollars to address quality-of-life issues.
Abraham Lincoln’s closing remarks of his short yet famous Gettysburg Address of Nov. 19, 1863, says it all: “Government of the people, by the people, for the people.”
These are actions that the City of Cave Junction strives towards. Let me know how we can improve your experience of local government.
