From the next mayor’s desk: Jesse Dugas

I am humbled and honored to write to you today as the newly elected Mayor of Cave Junction. This moment, made possible by your trust and support, fills me with deep gratitude and an unwavering commitment to our community. Thank you for placing your confidence in me and believing in my vision for our shared future. Your voices have been heard, and your support has empowered me to take on this important responsibility with a heart full of hope and determination.
As I prepare to step into the role of mayor, I recognize the significant responsibility that comes with serving as a leader in our community. It is essential to approach this position not only with enthusiasm but with patience and diligence. Effective leadership is built on understanding, thoughtful decision-making, and collaboration. That is why I am dedicating my first 90 days in office to actively listening, observing and learning. I will take this time to review our city’s current operations, meet with city officials and staff, and engage with community members to better understand the challenges we face and the opportunities we have to grow.
Patience is more than a virtue; it is a guiding principle for sustainable and impactful leadership. Rushing into decisions without fully understanding the complexities and nuances of our city’s needs could lead to short-term solutions that fail to address long-term goals. By taking the time to listen and learn in my first few months, I aim to lay the groundwork for thoughtful and strategic initiatives that will benefit our community for years to come.
I am committed to serving with transparency, integrity and a steady focus on what is best for Cave Junction. I intend to build upon the work of those who came before me and to foster an environment of collaboration and mutual respect. I firmly believe that the path to progress lies in unity and open dialogue, and I am eager to partner with each of you as we move forward.
