Put the Illinois Valley Community Connections Expo on your calendar, Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m.- 2p.m., at Lorna Bryne Middle School. This is an exciting family friendly event featuring local nonprofits and organizations in our region. You’ll have an opportunity to visit with and learn about the wide array of services and resources available to the Illinois Valley and connect with ways to get involved in the community.
Several energy organizations, including Oregon Department of Energy, Energy Trust, Pacific Power, and IVCDO will be doing presentations about their services and resources, and answering questions. There will be informative sessions on topics ranging from volunteering to accessing vital community resources.
Last time I went to The I.V. Community Connections Expo it was a high energy, very well attended and fun event. There were many interesting booths, I had a great time talking and sharing with new and old friends and came home with a bag of assorted items from several different organizations. The number of services and resources available in our community is impressive. Give it a try. I think you will enjoy the Expo. If you see me, say “Hi!”
The final walk through of the library addition and remodel inside and out happened last week. The next step is moving everything back in and setting up our library again. This is going to take some time, and I will keep you posted when the grand opening will be. We are hoping that if everything goes smoothly the newly remodeled library will reopen sometime this fall. I think you will agree that the wait has been worth it. Temporary services are still available at the Illinois Valley Senior Center at 520 E River St. The book drop is open Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 pm. Item pick-up service is Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Here is a quote that caught my eye: “Seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go, but it’s comforting to know: the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.” ~Michael Patrick Kin
