Richard Rodrigues has returned from a two and-a half week trip to California. He visited a number of family and friends around the Bay Area. Richard says he is glad to be home again-doesn’t like the smog.
Ken and Jean Mann have recently returned from a vacation trip, their first in several years. The boys batched while their parents were gone. Ken and Jean flew to Grand Island, Neb., to celebrate the 38th wedding anniversary of his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Mann of Scio. The day after they arrived at the sister’s home, the three couples drove to Trenton, Miss., to visit their older brother, Frank Mann and his family. Both Ken and Jean said they had a wonderful time during their ten-day vacation, except Jean doesn’t like plane rides. This was the first in the air and she hopes it’s the last time.
Mrs. Cherie Glamuzena flew from West Springfield, Mass., to spend several days with Miss Esther Brown, Caves Highway. While she was here her sister, Mrs. Cindy Letterman and her husband Mike and their little daughter Mecca drove from their home in Baldwin Park, Calif., to visit with Esther and Cherie.
Kelly and Evelyn Grimsgaard have recently returned from a month long stay in Vancouver, B.C. They went especially visit Kelly’s aunt, Mrs. Laura Jenssen, who is 98 years old. When they first arrived, she was not feeling well, but before they left, she was “chipper,” reminiscing, joking and talking about current happenings. While in B.C. they went to the interior to Tenticon, the fruit country, to see the trees in blossom, and drove with their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Gore to Revelstoke where Kelly used to judge ski tournaments in the 30’s. They enjoyed visiting the Vancouver Park where the tulips and spring flowers were at their best. They spent the day in the park with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Cunningham, and enjoyed the fantastic antics of the killer and white whales and dolphins.
Billy and Elza Bosanko have recently returned from a two weeks trip with their daughter Beatrice Chadwell of Crescent City doing the driving. They went first to Battle Mountain, Nev., to visit daughter Althea Chadwell and her husband Leroy, who works in the large copper mine there. The Bosanko’s next stop was in Buxton, Ore., to visit another daughter Loretta Knopski and her husband Chester. In Richfield, Wash., they visited at the home of Elza’s sister, Bernice Ewing. They finished their trip with a visit with their son Robert of Crescent City.
The Lincoln Savage Junior High 8th grade class is studying Josephine County history, and to make history come alive, their teachers, Betty Wahl and Allen Wall, brought them on a tour of the Kerbyville Museum in Kerby. Since there are about 180 students in Mrs. Wahl’s class, she brought half Monday. After they had toured the museum, they boarded the two buses and were taken to the site of the old gold mining town of Waldo, where they were met by Phayo and Ruth Pfefferle. Phayo told them some of the history of the old town where he was born, and Ruth showed them a number of pictures of the town when there were buildings still there and the people came from miles around to do their trading. The day was warm and the students roamed over the hills and slopes of Waldo town site.
Wall brought the other half of the class to the museum Tuesday, and to Waldo after their lunch, where they were met by Ruth Pfefferle, but since it was raining hard, the young people had to stay in the buses. Ruth had prepared a short history of the area and it was read by Wall on both buses, after which there was a question-and-answer period with Ruth answering most of their questions. They also saw the pictures of the old town.
I think the Tuesday class probably listened more attentively, but the Monday class had the most fun, especially when they killed the rattlesnake.
