How I Know God Is Alive
I believe in God.
I also believe He is a loving God who helps us. You may wonder why I am so confident. I’ve experienced it. When I was younger, I didn’t think I could be a leader of any kind, especially not a pastor. The challenge of such a career was daunting to me. I almost chose a different job.
But I felt called and here I am 36 years later. This has been a significant example to me of God’s direct intervention in my life.
I’ve had stunning answers to prayer. Once our family needed extra money to get some special health care. I didn’t know it yet, but the money had already arrived. It was in a stack of unopened mail in my home office. Reimbursement checks from an insurance policy I canceled years before – the exact amount we needed.
Faith-building miracles are not as rare as you think. The Bible tells of a wedding in which Jesus changed water to wine. But this wonder happens today. I often see vineyards in which irrigation water is daily transformed into grape juice.
The process is helped along by the sunlight, which is also a miracle. Did you know that a slight difference in the distance between earth and sun would make life impossible? But we are perfectly located in the solar system to receive all the sun’s benefits. Did that happen by accident?
Besides personal reasons for faith, there are also objective, factual reasons to believe. There is a prophecy of world history in advance that was recorded in the Old Testament book of Daniel several hundred years before Christ. It accurately predicted the rise and fall of the successive empires of Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. It also predicted that Europe would divide into many different nations, a reality that still exists. The foretelling was recorded over 1,000 years before Rome fell. The Bible is no ordinary book.
