Glenn William Arnett, 95, went to be with the Lord Aug. 27, 2024, at Grants Pass, Ore. He was born April 18, 1929, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Earl and Hope Hensley Arnett.
In the late 1930s, the family moved to Oakdale, Calif. where Glenn attended school, graduating in 1947 from Oakdale High School. Glenn excelled in football during high school, playing right varsity tackle for the Oakdale Mustangs, and was awarded a trophy for his outstanding performance. In his senior year he was also a member of the baseball team, the FFA (Future Farmers of America), and was an active member on the athletic board.
In 1948, the family moved to Cave Junction where his father operated a logging business. It was there that Glenn met Nola Mitchell, and the couple was married on May 21, 1949 in Grants Pass, celebrating 58 years of marriage until Nola’s passing in 2007.
Glenn and Nola made their home in Cave Junction, where Glenn was employed as head sawyer at Rough & Ready Lumber Company and enjoyed farming on the side. During this time, he also served as pastor of the Redwood Hwy Church of Christ, where generosity was well known, and he led the congregation in the spiritual teachings of the Lord.
The family moved to Colorado for a brief period, where Glenn was part owner of a grocery store, before returning to Cave Junction. An avid sportsman, the family’s diet was often supplemented with venison steaks and bear roasts.
After retirement, Glenn and Nola moved to Brookings, Ore. where Glenn pastored the Pacific Avenue Church of Christ for several years before returning to Grants Pass in 1994. There, he was active in the Church of Christ for many years.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his 10 brothers and sisters, his wife, and one grandchild. Surviving him are children Mike Arnett, (Lavon) Selma, Ore., Barbara Stone, Wilderville, Ore. and Paul Arnett of Okeechobee County, Fla.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Internment was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 6, 11 a.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass, with Hull and Hull Funeral Directors officiating.
