CITY OF CAVE JUNCTION
NOTICE OF MEASURE AND RECEIPT OF BALLOT TITLE

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that on August 6, 2024, the Cave Junction City Recorder/Elections Officer has received a ballot title for a measure referred by the Cave Junction City Council. This measure is to be referred to the voters at the November 5, 2024 election. Any elector may file a petition for review of the ballot title with the Josephine County Circuit Court no later than 5:00pm on August 15, 2024 (or within the 7th business day after the ballot title was filed with the City Elections Officer) under ORS 250.296. The elector must notify the City Elections Official (City Recorder) in writing that the petition has been filed. That notice must be given no later than 5:00p.m. on the next business day following the day the petition is filed.

CAPTION: City of Cave Junction to impose a Transient Lodging Tax of 12%

QUESTION: Shall the City of Cave Junction impose a Transient Lodging Tax (TLT) of twelve percent (12%).

SUMMARY STATEMENT: The City Council shall enter into a transient lodging tax collection intergovernmental agreement with the Oregon State Department of Revenue to collect a newly imposed Transient Lodging Tax (TLT) of twelve percent (12%) on the sale, service or furnishing of transient lodging within the city limits of Cave Junction.

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT: The City of Cave Junction will impose a Transient Lodging Tax of 12% to be collected by the Oregon Department of Revenue. A TLT Advisory Committee will be established consisting of 5 members (2 City Council Members, 2 local current business owners and the Administrative Director for the IV Chamber of Commerce) and will meet at minimum of once annually to recommend changes in the allocation methodology or other provisions of TLT policy to the City Council. Taxes collected will be disbursed in accordance with ORS 320.000 to 320.350, (70% of net revenue from the TLT to fund tourism promotion/tourism-related facilities and 30% to the City’s General Fund.
