Ethelmae (Ethel) Catherine Moore died peacefully May 4, 2024, after a quick and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Los Angeles Sept. 23, 1940, an only and much-loved child of Thomas Charles Britt and Victoria Catherine Cyr. She graduated from Loyola Marymount High School in 1958 and married the love of her life, Gary Leland Moore May 6, 1961 in Hawthorn, Calif.
She lived a life dedicated to her family, community, and church with unmatched commitment and selflessness. She was forever the room mother, the volunteer, and the leader of the prayer chain.
Ethel’s professional life was varied, starting out as a telephone operator, studying nursing, running n-home child care, and serving over a decade in the US postal service. She also co-owned the O’Brien Country Store with her husband, Gary for over 20 years.
After retiring to Cottage Grove, she coordinated the green bag initiative for the food bank and volunteered at the Peace Health Hospital. She was quietly generous with her time, energy, and resources.
Ethel found solace in nature, particularly the Oregon Coast. She enjoyed traveling with her family, exploring New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, and most recently, Ireland.
She is survived by her loving and lucky husband, Gary, her four blessed and grateful children: Steve (Janet) Moore, Sherri (Bill) Lauer, Kimberly Moore, and Kelli (Terry) Augustadt; her much-loved grandchildren: Jordan (Isabella), Shaun (Ashlee), Kayla (Weston), Karly, Ally (Steven), Elise, Nicholas, Alexa, Olivia, and Zuva; and her five cherished great-grandchildren: Maeli, Cooper, Logan, McKenna and Wells.
Ethel’s sweetness and presence will be dearly missed. Her legacy of service and love will persist through generations to come.
