NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF PROSPECTIVE INITIATIVE PETITION AND BALLOT TITLE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Prospective Initiative Petition and ballot title have been filed with the Josephine County Clerk. The Prospective Initiative Petition IP-2024-1 has been determined to meet the requirements of Article IV, Section 1(2)(d), and Article VI, Section 10, of the Oregon Constitution, and ORS 250.168. The following ballot title has been provided by the Josephine County District Attorney:

CAPTION: Replacement of Josephine County Charter

QUESTION: Should Josephine County voters repeal the existing Charter and replace it with this updated version?

SUMMARY: IP-2024-1 is a proposal to modify the existing Josephine County Charter by repealing the existing Charter and replacing it with the Charter outlined/accompanying IP-2024-1.

IP-2024-1’s Charter includes much of the existing Charter within it.

IP-2024-1’s Charter modifies Chapters II, III, IV, V, VI, and VII of the existing Josephine County Charter. The modifications to these Chapters include updating/modernizing the language, modifying residency requirements from 6 to 24 months for elective officers, precluding Commissioners from holding another lucrative or nonlucrative office, and modifying all elective office filings to partisan from nonpartisan, as well as prohibiting an income tax, a sales tax, and prohibiting ranked choice voting in county candidates.

ANY ELECTOR dissatisfied with this ballot title may file a petition for review of this ballot title in the Josephine County Circuit Court pursuant to ORS 250.195, no later than 5:00 p.m., June 7, 2024, (7 business days after filing of the ballot title with the County Clerk).

A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the City of Cave Junction, Josephine County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for fiscal year July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 will be held at City Hall, 222 W. Lister Street, Cave Junction, Oregon. The meeting will take place Thursday, June 12, 2024 at 6:00pm. The purpose of the meeting will be to receive the budget message, review budget documents and consider testimony in the use of State Revenue Sharing Funds as proposed in the FY 2024-2025 budget.
A copy of the budget documents will be available at City Hall, 222 W. Lister Street, on June 10, 2024.
