This year the Illinois Valley Community Development Organization awards were given out a little differently. To celebrate the community, IVCanDo held a free block party May 29 along with the other neighbors in the office complexes at 341 E. Cottage St. in Cave Junction (near the Hanby neighborhood). There was food and entertainment along with other community organizations tables from the I.V. Chamber of Commerce, Oregon Caves, Main Street Cave Junction and more.
According to IVCanDo Communications & Outreach Manager Anna Wiley, the block party was a great success. “We had a lot of fun meeting our neighbors and recognizing the community builders and partners who help make the I.V. a great place to live. IVCanDO believes in the power of partnerships and this was demonstrated during the event. Thank you to all who came!”
The community awards:
Volunteers of the Year: Linda Naydol & Rick Alves / Jean Shubert
Good Neighbor Award: Ariana Jurisic
Organization of the Year: Kalmiopsis Community Arts High School
Partner of the Year: Energy Trust of Oregon
Lifetime Achievement Award: Suzanne Vaultier & Tim Mondragon
The crowd was moved while watching all the smiling faces of those that work so hard in the community receive their accolades. The crowd was also delighted to watch the talent from Judi Carpenter’s dance troupe Scrambled Legs and Tangled Toes and RiverStars dancer Etnie Keller.
