May 19
**May is Wildfire Preparedness Month. Do you know what to do and where to go the next time a wildfire happens? Join fire ecologists and wildfire professionals on Sunday, May 19th at 2pm at the Dome School in Takilma to discover the ways our community can become more Firewise. A film-screening of “ELEMENTAL- Reimagine Wildfire” will kick-off this event sponsored by the Takilma Community Association, IVFROG and the Firebrand Resiliency Collective. Admission is free.

Evening Hike on Cliff Nature Trail – Saturday, June 22 from 8 p.m. arrival to 10 p.m.
Telescope viewing with the Grants Pass Astronomy Club – Saturday, July 6, 2024, 9-11 p.m.
Watch a Meteor Shower! The Perseids, Saturday, Aug. 10, 9 – 11p.m. at the Siskiyou Field Institute.
All events are weather permitting. Call ahead if you have accessibility questions. Wear appropriate clothing and good footwear. Bring a source of light, water, and snacks. You’re welcome to bring personal binoculars, cameras, and chairs. There is no lodging in the park. Cave Creek Campground is first come, first served.

**Spiral Living Center presents our 18th Anniversary Celebration June Skillshare Saturday, June 8.

**Hathkapasuta Illinois River Celebration Parade of Puppets, all ages invited to join in! Illinois River Forks State Park 11a.m. -6 p.m. Free event. Playful arts and nature experiences for the whole family, hands-on history and nature exhibits, fun games & crafts, live music Clan Dyken & For the Next Step, food vendors, free craft booth for kids of all ages by IRVAC, Recycled Raft Race at 3:30pm. ** Recycled Raft Race – Homemade rafts race down the Illinois River 125 yards during Hathkapasuta River Celebration at Illinois River Forks State Park.
2 Divisions: Adults – 16 & over, Youth – 10-15. Catagories: most unique, funniest, fastest etc. For both divisions. This even is about ingenuity, creativity and most of all FUN!
Rules: Rafts must be handmade. Floats can be small inner tubes, water jugs, capped PVC pipes, barrels ect. Use your imagination! No large inner tubes, tahitis etc. Paddles and oars only. 1 or 2 riders allowed; torso must be above water. Life jackets must be worn.

** Illinois Valley Soil & Water Conservation District will meet the fourth Thursday of the month January through October at 6 p.m. at their office- 331 E Cottage Park Drive suite 1B November and December meetings will be held the third Thursday.

** Illinois Valley Watershed Council will meet on the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. at the office at 331 E Cottage park Dr Suite 1B.

** Volunteers Wanted Josephine County Sheriff’s Office is seeking volunteers for the following; Staffing the Merlin and Cave Junction Substations; Patrol including providing vacation home checks, checking parks & boat ramps, locating and tagging abandoned vehicles. And providing court safety.

** Volunteers wanted for Illinois Valley Wellness Resources to assist senior and disabled residents in their home with light duty activities and /or socialization and to drive residents to doctor or grocery store. ** HIV Alliance offers services in Cave Junction every Tuesday from noon – 3 p.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church (across from Shop Smart). Services include: Free and confidential HIV and Hep C testing. Needle Exchange and drop box (all syringes welcome), and overdose response and Naloxone training.
