Republic Services holds recycling and tire disposal event for Josephine County residents

Republic Services is excited to invite all Josephine County residents to the annual recycling and tire-takeback event on Saturday, April 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. held at the Merlin Transfer Station, 1749 Merlin Rd. in Grants Pass. This is your chance to declutter your home and responsibly dispose of tires, recyclables, yard debris, scrap metal, and unwanted electronics.

The first four tires per carload will be accepted at no cost to the customer. Each additional tire will be charged the usual rate, ranging between $6.45 and $12.80 depending on tire type. The first 300 residents who bring tires will receive a fun gift to thank them for helping clean up their community.

There is no charge for household quantities of other materials for recycling or composting. This event is a convenient way to get rid of items that can’t be placed in your regular recycling or organics cart.

We’ll be accepting household quantities of:

  • Yard debris and branches
  • Cardboard
  • Unpainted and untreated wood
  • Scrap metal (barbecues and lawnmowers must have fluids and tanks removed beforehand)
  • Large appliances
  • Televisions
  • Computers and mobile electronics

“Republic Services is proud to partner with the Josephine County Solid Waste Advisory Committee to keep our community clean,” said Julie Jackson, Municipal Manager for Republic Services. “Holding this on Earth Day is an especially appropriate way to celebrate our planet by keeping our community clean.”

All items collected at the event will be safely recycled or composted. However, there are a few things we cannot accept:

  • Paint
  • Hazardous waste (car fluids, pesticides, fertilizers, explosives, lubricants, etc.)
  • Household trash
  • Large truck, tractor and large equipment tires.
  • Dirt or concrete
