For: anyone interested in learning the basic tools and skills involved in wildland firefighting or getting certified for employment as a wildland firefighter. Some of the training stations will include: hand tools, their use and maintenance, ignition devices, fire engines and hose lays, and radio communication. In conjunction with free online S130/S190 course work, this class will allow participants to complete the requirements to become a National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2/basic fire fighter). For individuals seeking FFT2 certification, the necessary fire shelter deployment and arduous pack test will also be offered.

** Rough & Ready Wildflower Hike is Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10 a.m.
Meet at the parking area at Rough & Ready Botanical Wayside south of Cave Junction on Hwy 199 at mile marker 34 The walk through the Rough and Ready Wayside is geared for plant enthusiasts and novices alike. This is a great opportunity for folks to come out and enjoy the spring wildflowers no matter what your skill level on plant identification might be.
This is a short hike on rocky, but relatively level ground, with lots of beautiful wildflowers to see, many of them are rare or of limited range.
A portion of the hike will be along a wheel-chair accessible path so folks of limited mobility can come out and enjoy the wildflowers too.
Be Prepared Bring water, dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Bring lunch if you like, there’s a picnic table overlooking Rough & Ready Creek.

The Illinois Valley Community Choir invites you to an evening of choral music at their Spring Concert, Tuesday, April 23 from 7-8 p.m. at the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Cave Junction. This one-time public performance features songs ranging from Gregorian chants to Irish laments to John Denver, with a whole lot of variety in between. The choir is directed by Kate Campbell, who will be joined by professional instrumentalists from our community, including B. Wishes! Audience participation is encouraged. Families & children of all ages are welcome! A reception will follow the performance with food and light refreshments available. Admission is FREE, though donations will gladly be accepted at the door to cover costs of the rehearsal and performance space. The church is located at 200 W. Watkins St. across from Shop Smart.
