The Illinois Valley Garden Club will be moving their meetings to Bridgeview Community Church at 5181 Holland Loop Rd, in Cave Junction, effective Jan. 15, 2024. Club meetings are the third Friday of the month. Social and snack time 12:30 p.m. (Jan. 19 meeting only) and noon starting in February, meeting starts at 1 p.m.
Over the last year the membership of the club has grown to over 70 members. We are excited that Pastor Sonny Moore has welcomed our club to meet at his church. We will have plenty of room for our meetings, monthly horticulture items, program presentations and raffles. Illinois Valley Garden Club was formed in 1927 by Effie Smith, an avid gardener and amateur horticulturist who encouraged friends in the Illinois Valley to garden.
The club supports several ongoing projects to include: initiating the designation of setting aside a very unique botanical area that later became the Rough and Ready Botanical Wayside, participate in the Flower Exhibits at the Josephine County Fair, provide a yearly scholarship for a local student at Illinois Valley High School, continuing commitment for road cleanup on Caves Hwy, Memorial tree planting, provide fresh flowers in the chapel at White City Veterans Rehab Center, monetary support of Eagle Point National Cemetery, maintain the “Pink” planter at the IV Senior Center, maintenance of the Effie Smith Memorial garden at Laurel Cemetery.
The Garden Club is active in the community and welcomes anyone who loves to garden and/or wants to learn more about gardening in the Illinois Valley. If you’d like more information about us, pick up a brochure at the Visitor Center or check out our Facebook page: facebook.com/ivgardenclub.
