State to shutter CJ DMV office for good

According to a press release sent midday Dec. 4 to Senator Robinson and Rep. Lily Morgan, the state announced the closing of the Cave Junction DMV office.
“I am writing this afternoon to let you know that the Cave Junction DMV office will close permanently this month. The last day the office will serve customers is Friday, Dec. 22, 2023,” wrote Kayla Hootsmans the Legislative Director for the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The Cave Junction DMV, located at 103 S Kerby, is a one-person-run office that has served the community since January 1982. The current employee will retire later this year.
Beginning Dec. 26, Cave Junction customers may go to another DMV location of their choosing, including the Grants Pass DMV office (30 miles away) at 162 NE Beacon Drive, Suite 127, for in person services. Note that all DMV offices will be closed Dec. 25, 2023.
Grants Pass DMV office hours are:
8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesdays
8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays
DMV’s decision to close the Cave Junction office and refer customers to Grants Pass was made by balancing multiple factors—including an expiring office lease, plus building and technology constraints—with the desire to provide consistent customer service to the region.
Now more than ever, Cave Junction DMV customers should consider conducting their business online. Customers can see what they can do online at DMV2U.Oregon.gov. Many transactions, such as registration renewal or transferring a title, can also be done through the mail.
Other services, such as adding the Real ID option to your license, must be done in person. Before you go to DMV, make sure you have all the documents you need and that your local office is open by visiting the office’s page at OregonDMV.com. Use the Real ID tool to determine which documents you need to bring for Real ID.
