Hello from the Illinois Valley golf course!
In this week’s action, we started Men’s League and had nice turn-out for both Monday and Wednesday. Both nights filled the course with players and we actually ran out of carts. I will have a complete run-down of the scores in next weeks’ paper.
The Thursday night ladies had a good time with several birdies reported. Mary, Sierra, Dani and Samantha played in one group and Emily, Jamie, Courtney and Sherry in the other. Sue showed up and took over for Emily as there was a baseball game that Ashton had. The weather was pleasant and most of the white flowers had been mowed so they could find their shots easily.
Friday night Family, Friends and kids night had a nice group including Todd, Me, D’Lynn, Troy, Poke, Ty, Chris and me. My grandsons, Greyson and Ashton came along and hit a few balls. My daughter, Taylor and her friend from Medford played separately from the guys and Jim showed up in a cart and followed us around for a while. I parred #3 for the first skin. Chris and I tied on the next hole. Todd missed a birdie putt on 5, so I kept my skin alone. We had a bunch of pars on #7 and finally Ty parred #9 for a skin, so I had to share the pot.
Saturday a few guys traveled to Dutcher Creek for a tournament. Roger, Troy, Todd and David had an eagle and two birdies to start—they finished at 2nd low net and got some cash. Poke, D’Lynn, Jim and Don finished very well with a 1st gross, which is the best team score overall. Danny, Roger, Dustin and their friend from GP finished at 3rd net so the I.V. teams made a great showing and took home money for all of them. A pro from Umpqua got a hole-in-one on the 18th hole for a little added excitement.
And finally, Sunday evening it was quiet with Roland, Troy, Todd, Colby and me. Ash and Grey came out and fell asleep bundled up in my extra coats and blankets, and slept the entire 9 holes. Todd got all the skins with pars on 1, 3 and 7. The KPs carried over to #7 for a payout of $15 won by Troy. We also saw the Robbins family out there doing a birthday golf outing for Avery. And Jake convinced Bob and Pam White to come out along with him and Stephanie and they looked to be having a good time. Steph and Pam also convinced us to play “Left, Right Center” for a dollar each, and my wife Tracy and I lost a few bucks to them.
The practice green is coming along very well with some nice soil that we found on site and Jake’s amazing ability on the mini-ex and the skid-steer. Scottie ditched in the main lines and I mapped out the sprinkler lines and have them marked and ready to dig on Tuesday. I also applied a little fertilizer until my rusty spreader collapsed. We bought a new plastic one that we can tow behind a cart and will have the rest of it spread as soon as it arrives.
**Kids’ League starts next month so we hope to get them out and familiar with the course in the next couple weeks.
**Next tournament is Queens of the Greens this Saturday—tee time is 10 a.m. Get some friends and come out and have fun with the other ladies. There will be a potluck lunch following the tournament.
