The Illinois Valley High School softball team faced off against the Bandon/Pacific Tigers April 28. Once again, the home team overtook their opponents showed exactly how formidable they could be.
The Cougars started out strong in the first two half of the game, quickly gaining five points to the Tiger’s one by the top of the third inning. The opposition caught up a few times, but each time that this happened, the Cougars blasted past them.
The sixth inning became the true turning point of the game. The home team held a 3-point lead, which they quickly managed to turn into a resounding 10-point lead. The game ended in a Cougar victory, 20-10.
“Overall, the girls have been putting in a lot of hard work, and they have been doing a lot of unexpected things,” said coach Justine Johnson after the game, adding, “Their work is starting to pay off.”
The Cougars’ tenacity certainly bodes well for the rest of their season.
