2 fatal motor vehicle incidents in the Valley

**On April 10, 6:20 p.m., the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 300 Block of McMullen Creek Road. Upon arrival, Deputies located a white 2012 Volvo station wagon off the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The driver and only occupant, Derick L. Williams, was found deceased in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle was traveling north on McMullen Creek at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The roadway was also wet from the recent rain.
Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response assisted at the scene.
There is no further information at this time.

**The second incident occurred April 15, at approximately 2:38 P.M., the Oregon State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Caves Hwy, near milepost 4, in rural Cave Junction.
The preliminary investigation indicated a silver 2008 Mercedes, operated by Caleb Allen Stewart , 23 of Yacolt Wash., was attempting to pass another vehicle. Stewart lost control, traveled through a fence and struck a tree. Stewart was declared deceased at the scene by first responders.
Three passengers- Connor G Reeves also 23 of Yacolt Wash., Lileana R. Hoffman, 23, of Battleground Wash. and Cora J. Horton 24 of Grants Pass were all transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation.
