Artis J Owens

7-18-1943 – 10-27-2022
Artis Jane Owens died Oct. 27, 2022 in Portland, Ore. Artis was born July 18, 1943 in Scottsbluff, Neb. to her parents Arthur Wayne and Violet Olive Baker. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wendell W. Owens whom she met at College in St. Paul, Minn. They were married in Twin Falls, Idaho Aug. 22, 1965. Artis is also survived by her sister Bonita (Stan) Austin; her children Sherry (John) Braga, Rocky Owens, James Owens, Kenneth Owens, Taylor Owens and Tannor Owens; plus many children she adopted in her heart including Gabe and Summer. Artis and her husband took in nearly 100 foster kids over 40 years (some for a few weeks and others for a few years). They also hosted 15 exchange students from all over the world. Artis has three grandchildren: Jessica Braga, Jonathan Braga and Sophia Owens. She has many in-laws plus nieces and nephews all over the country and one even as a missionary to Africa.
Artis was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Alvin (Nancy) Baker; and her sister Grace (Monte) Hawk. She was raised on a farm in southern Idaho and later her father became a minister with the UPCI. She married a minister, as did all of her sisters and her brother was also licensed pastor. Artis was a pastor’s wife for 50 years in Idaho, Canada, Montana and Oregon.
Over the years, Artis loved working in the garden and baking. She loved making meals for others. Her personal favorites were fried chicken, strawberry pie and Mountain Dew. Artis’ had a great sense of humor and the home was always filled with laughter. No one was a stranger to Artis. Once a friend, always her friend. Artis loved ALL her kids and grandkids with a love that showed beyond what one could imagine. For the holidays, she loved everyone (family and friends) being together and would go all out to make it special! She was creative in teaching kids and helping them through the tough times. Her love was unconditional and was something no one forgot. Every kid in her home always got a Bible and although we’ve lost touch with many, we hope they all still have their Bible from Artis. Everyone loved Artis’ home because it was full of love and laughter! Artis was a prayer warrior, she touched heaven when she prayed! Her faith never wavered and her medical records say things like, “unexplained recovery,” but we know they are called “miracles” which she experienced often. She radiated beauty from within and made every minute of her life count to the very end!
EVERYONE is welcome to come celebrate her life:
