Her life in the Valley of Riches

Autumn is here and I am enjoying this year’s harvest. Dan made his family’s sauce recipe with the tomatoes, basil and onions from our garden and it was delicious. I have also been enjoying the changing leaves. The Valley is such a beautiful place to live!
Halloween is almost here and I hope you can donate to the Hanby neighborhood Halloween candy drive. There are bins at Shop Smart and Grocery Outlet for your convenience. If you haven’t attended the party in the Hanby neighborhood, you have missed out on some spooktacular fun. The community shows up in droves to support a safe Halloween for the kiddos. Not only does I.V. Fire District staff attend for Trunk or Treat and Taylor’s Sausage grills hotdogs, but RiverStars Performing Arts shows up for a flash mob around 6 p.m. The neighbors really go all out with the decorations, especially at the corner of Lindilu Lane.
And just a reminder to all downtown businesses in Cave Junction, Halloween falls on a Monday this year,so if you are open around 4 p.m. be prepared for Trick-or-Treaters. In the past, I forgot that the little ones start parading around in their costumes early, and I didn’t remember to buy candy. This year I am prepared, so I don’t have to run to the store at the last moment.
If you are looking for adult Halloween parties, check out our calendar of events and display ads and have a fun and safe time!
It is also time to vote. I got my ballot in the mail last week. Here in the Valley, it is so easy to take a few minutes to mark your votes, sign, and then drop it back in the ballot box outside of City Hall.
One more reminder: If you are trying to email the Illinois Valley News staff, you need to use “theivnews.com” now, instead of “illinois-valley-news.com.” So you can email laura, stacy or dan@theivnews.com.
Thank you for supporting your local newspaper!
