Mary L. Paul, 74, died Jan. 13, 2022. She is survived by her husband Gary D. Paul Sr and three children, Heather Merrill, Gary D. Paul Jr., and Christopher Paul; and her sister Ann Crist. She has 11 grandchildren and three-great grandchildren. Mary was born in California and moved to Oregon in 1988. She worked at Evergreen Elementary School and Illinois Valley High School. One of her students had this to say about Mrs. Paul, “Mrs. Paul meant so much to me I don’t know if I would have graduated high school without her. She was always so good to me, she’d call you out in a heartbeat if you were ever acting out but for the most part she was always so sweet and always cared so much about all the kids that came through her room. That was the best part about getting in-school suspension was hanging out with Mrs. Paul.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vera Ferris and in-laws Howard and Betty Paul.
Mary’s memorial service will be July 22, 2022 at 11 a.m .at Valley Evangelical Free Church. The family is asking for donations to be made to either EV Free Church Women of Purpose, IVHS Cheerleaders, or the IVHS Family Advocate program, in lieu of flowers or plants.
Gerlinde Marie Ambron (Rorison) Born August 10, 1931 and died April 30, 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home July 16, beginning at 2 p.m. at her home on 211 Ivy Dr. Cave Junction. We wish also to honor and remember her husband Guenter, Gerlinde’s sister Susanne E. Berglund – her husband Del, the two sisters’ parents Julius & Susanne C. Kappes of Kerby, Ore.
From Germany to Oregon: Gerlinde was the youngest and last remaining living member of the Kappes Family, from Bishofsheim German, that migrated to the U.S. beginning with her only sister Susanne (Elizabeth), who married Del Berglund, a G.I. from Wisconsin stationed in Germany after WWII. Susi and Del, with Del Jr., moved to Wisconsin, then they sponsored Susi’s parents to the U.S. in 1954. And then, in 1959, they sponsored Gerlnde, her husband Guenter Ambron and child Guenter Jr. to the U.S.
Gerlinde, Del Jr., and Guenter Jr. were all born in the same house, in the forest, that Julius Kappes built in 1929 near Bishofsheim. The Ambrons started in Wisconsin, went to San Lois Obisbo, to Oxnard, then Camarillo. Calif. while having two more children. In 1969 the Kappes’ retired, Oregon reminded them of their forest home in Germany and insisted the whole family, the Berglunds and the Ambrons, join them and live closer together as a family. And now, in 2022, our two earlier generations have all passed in their S. Oregon Homes.
Gerlinde was grateful to make it to her 90th year. She had a steady decline, with CHF and high BP for several years. She died peacefully at her home two weeks after a left side paralytic stroke with her two sons by her side. Her urn now sits next to her husband’s, Guenter, who died in 1990. She leaves behind her children: Guenter Ambron Jr., Duane Ambron, Renee Souza; grandchildren: Devin, Justin and Kaela Ambron, Sabrina and Charlene Souza.
